BZ30 CO₂ air quality data logger – for autonomous long-term logging of carbon dioxide concentration, room temperature and humidity

Pandemic and infection alarms are going off everywhere you look – how often can, should or must classrooms, waiting rooms and meeting rooms be ventilated? An recommendation often heard is about every 20 minutes. But is that really enough? Is that too little ventilation, too much or just right? The BZ30 CO₂ air quality data logger delivers clarity here, because its alarm function warns you if it detects an increased concentration of CO₂.  Schools, offices and private households thereby receive an indication of potentially inadequate ventilation management, which brings with it a potentially increased risk of infection.

The increased concentration of CO₂ in areas with a high number of people is – among other things – responsible for disturbances in concentration and sleep, and allergic reactions.  In addition, CO₂ concentrations much more than or consistently above 1,000 ppm indicate insufficient ventilation – and a potentially increased risk of coronavirus infection.  This applies not only to ventilation through windows, but also to the operation of ventilation systems. With the BZ30, you can reliably monitor indoor air quality, because the CO₂ air quality data logger records not only the current carbon dioxide concentration, but also the air temperature and relative humidity of the indoor air. The BZ30 also has a carbon dioxide alarm function with a warning signal for limit values which you can set yourself. This is your last warning to cry out “Open the window!”

Here’s how it works

The large backlit display of the BZ30, with its easy-to-read measurement display allows the CO₂ value, room temperature, humidity, date and time to be displayed simultaneously.  The additional CO₂ symbol indicator display, comparable with a CO₂ traffic light, provides additional security at first sight in addition to the minimum and maximum value function for CO₂, air temperature and even air humidity readings. Controlling air humidity is extremely important. Scientists emphasise that a relative humidity of 40 to 60 percent reduces the spread of viruses and their absorption through the nasal mucosa. This is because the aerosols cannot shrink as quickly and tend to sink to the ground in heavy drops.

Because the device also has a large data memory for 50,000 measured values for long-term recording, it is ideally suited for use in work, living and children’s rooms, classrooms, kindergartens or office and production environments. The storage intervals can also be adjusted to your desired settings from 1 second to 12 hours. The recorded data can be conveniently transferred to a connected PC using the fast USB connection, where it can be evaluated and logged using the analysis software included in the scope of delivery.

BZ30 − CO₂ monitoring for suggested ventilation

A CO₂ concentration of up to 1,000 ppm indicates hygienically adequate air flow under normal conditions. Even at a CO₂ value of only 1,500 ppm, the ability to concentrate decreases noticeably and headaches, fatigue and even drowsiness can set in. For values above 1,000 ppm, the room should be ventilated so that the values are once more in the 400-500 ppm range. In light of this, the BZ30 CO₂ air quality data logger supplies reliable references whether, when and above all also how long a ventilation is necessary. However, the installation of a CO₂  sensor does not mean that a CO₂ concentration of less than 1,000 ppm will fundamentally protect you against infection with SARS-CoV-2. This is because a connection between CO₂ concentration and viral load does not exist.

BZ30 – an important indicator for necessary ventilation measures

Increased concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO₂) in the room air are a sure indicator that the time is ripe to change the air. If necessary, you can improve the indoor climate by increasing the flow of fresh air or with the effective use of air purifiers, humidifiers, or dehumidifiers.

  • Load and support
With the BZ30, you no longer have to constantly worry about when it’s time for the next airing. This allows you to concentrate better on your lessons or work.
  • Better protection against infection
By airing the room in good time, you can avoid excessive aerosol particle pollution of indoor air.
  • Consistent performance
You are always up-to-date on CO₂ content, fine dust particles and pollen particles in the indoor air, so you can ventilate to counteract tiredness, chronic coughing or allergic reactions.
