From vision to innovation: a CO₂-neutral logistics and production center from Trotec is being built in Heinsberg

It all started with a vision: climate neutrality.

Europe is to be climate neutral by 2050. This can only be achieved if as many companies, people and governments as possible see the fight against climate change as a team effort. Acting together in the interest of climate protection, but never losing sight of personal responsibility. With this guiding principle in mind, Trotec already set itself ambitious goals when planning the new state-of-the-art logistics and production center in Heinsberg. Climate neutrality by the year 2023. To achieve this, CO₂ emissions in production and logistics will be reduced to a minimum and the ecological footprint significantly reduced. In addition, Trotec supports numerous measures at home and abroad that contribute to reducing the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) or other greenhouse gases.

Taking big steps towards climate neutrality – the construction progress of the logistics and production center to date in 60 seconds:

Great things are being built here – for Heinsberg, the region and the environment.

Trotec’s new logistics and production center is being built in the immediate vicinity of the Oberbruch industrial park and will be operated in a climate-neutral manner thanks to numerous innovations.

Regional electricity from Trotec

The approximately 50,000 m² roof area of the building will be equipped with a photovoltaic system of the latest generation. While conventional solar systems usually only have an average efficiency of between 15 % and 20 %, the solar modules used by Trotec achieve an efficiency of almost 30 %. Around one third of the incident light is converted into electrical energy. This is top class and makes a significant contribution to the fact that as early as 2023 up to 2,000 households in the Heinsberg region will be able to rely on a sustainable energy supply through regional green electricity.

“Sustainability means acting in an economically, ecologically and socially responsible manner. That’s why every household in the region will soon be able to obtain green electricity, which we will produce here on site on our roof.”
Alexandra Goertz, Trotec Managing Director

Resource-saving heat pump technology

Of course, the logistics center itself will also be supplied with the self-generated green electricity. Fossil energy is avoided 100 percent in the cooling and heating of the areas. Instead, energy-saving heat pumps provide sustainable and resource-saving air conditioning for the building.

Charging columns for electric vehicles

The Trotec vehicle fleet will be increasingly electrified in the coming years. Whether employees, customers, fitters or suppliers – charging stations on the company premises will promote the mobility turnaround in the region.

A success story “made in Heinsberg”.

With the new logistics and production center, Trotec will achieve its goal of being climate neutral as early as 2023. But this is just the beginning of pushing the issue of sustainability further. “We have drawn up a sustainability strategy with high standards for all future projects at home and abroad,” says Alexandra Goertz, Managing Director at Trotec, giving an outlook on the future. What has started in Heinsberg will also be implemented in all Trotec subsidiaries worldwide in the future.
